We started having a closer look at money today. Children discussed why we need money and where we save our money. Some friends painted piggy banks and coins, played a coin match up game, and traced and printed coin names.

Experimenting with snow
On Wednedsay we collected snow into our sensory bin from our playground. We added food colouring, scoops, funnels and shovels. We wore our mitts to play in it.
We then predicted what would happen overnight.
Some of our predictions were: it will be slush, it will melt, it will turn black in colour or orange or purple.
It may stay the same.
In the afternoon we investigated. It turned from snow to water! It was orange! It was dirty! There was dirt, small stick pieced and small bits of gravel/rocks in it!
we discussed how clean it looked to start but dirt was hidden inside! We were reminded not to eat it!!

Wednesday
Today we enjoyed a story by Mrs. Wickson. It was called "Friends". We learned how friends can be different on the outside but still get along with each other. The writing table was set up for students to write or draw about their friends and what they like to do together.
We also used cool coloured crayons to draw. We made shadows with light. As well we created with " monster mash".

New after school pick up area!
Please be advised that starting Tuesday February 16 we will have a slight change in our dismissal for students who are picked up at the end of the day. In effort to ease the congestion at the gate, K2 will be dismissed to parents/ guardians from the gate that leads to the "big kid" playground/ blacktop.
The students have practiced several times where they will be lining up at the end of the day.

Valentine Party
Just a reminder about our Valentine's Day celebration on Friday, February 12th. Children need to place their Valentine cards into a Ziplock bag with their name clearly on the bag. K2 has 27 children in the class. As mentioned in the note that went home earlier in the month, please only have your child sign each card (do not address with individual names). The students are so excited for Friday!

Finger Painting
A number of friends headed to the painting table to finger paint. They told us it felt slippery, squishy, and wet.

Listening Centre
Many friends enjoyed winter stories at the listening centre. Thank you to Mrs. Greenspoon for lending us the adapter we were missing to get our listening centre back up and running!

Lock down practice
Today we had a lockdown practice. The principal made an announcement for us to go into lockdown. Quickly and quietly the children gathered on the carpet and crouched into small balls, all together. We stayed together. The windows were closed and door was locked.
We waited quietly, breathing quietly and were safe. The teacher quietly reassured children we were safe and doing a good job! We had no wiggles, no loud noises. The principal once again came on the system and announced lockdown was complete.
Good job practicing safety!
Can you pack your back pack?
Today, we had a challenge: how fast can you pack your back pack?
We had a knapsack, waterbottle, zippy bag, lunch bag and shoes. Everyday items our students have in their bag. Friends took turns pressing the start and stop button to time each other. The other friend packed the bag then recorded their time on the chart.
We need to continue encouraging our students to practice packing and unpacking their bags at hom
Try this challenge at home!

A New Month
We have started our new month with lots of activity! We made groundhog puppets, used bingo dabbers to create paintings, practiced printing popcorn words, and made a February chart. I wonder if Wiarton Willie will see his shadow tomorrow?
