Holiday Wishes

Mrs. Wickson, Mrs. Weller, Mrs. Vernon, and Mrs. Brillinger were so proud of all the children for their fantastic performance in the assembly today!  Tomorrow is our last day of school before the holidays.  Enjoy family and friends over the break and we will see you in 2016.  Happy New Year!

Happy Hanukkah!

Today is the last day of Hanukkah and one of our students told us about celebrating with family and about a fun dreidel game. He even taught us a dreidel song.  We had fun!


Holiday Assembly

Our holiday assembly is almost here!  Just a reminder of the day and time:  Thursday, December 17 at approximately 9:30 am.  Seating is limited so come early to the gym.  We hope to see you there!

Alexander Place

We have worked very hard at decorating cards to be delivered to Seniors at Alexander Place. The children were very creative and patient in creating their special card. 
Happy holidays to all at Alexander Place. I am sure many smiles will be made when they receive our cards!

Holiday Prep

We were busy preparing holiday cards today!  We have also been practicing for our performance at the holiday assembly next Thursday, December 17 during period 1 and 2.  The countdown is on!

We have been elf'ed!

The other day we returned from outdoors to find a note on our door. "We have been elf'ed!!! In the classroom on the carpet was a note from the elf and an ornament for us to hang in our class. It was a decorated felt Christmas tree. The note said we now had to elf another class! We made a decoration and quietly 2 friends and a teacher went to drop our gift off at the classroom we chose! It was a successful mission!

Busy days

Today was a busy day. We worked on decorating cupcakes for our bakery. We made patterns using winter themes. We worked on printing and retelling the story " If you take a mouse to the movies."

Capacity

Today we are learning about capacity. We are predicting which container holds more glass beads. We are estimating how many are in each container. We are counting how many are actually in the containers and comparing our results.

Crock a doodle visits!

Today we had the Crockadoodle team visit our classroom. We all enjoyed selecting our own ornament from the wide selection provided. It was enjoyed by all!!

After gym class today, students had a little time with open centers before home time. They went right to work playing, creating, collaborating, and writing.

Mr. Gumpy's Motorcar

Today students read the story Mr. Gumpy's Motorcar. We practiced fine motor skills and literacy skills during our learning centers. 


Jack and Jill

We read the Jack and Jill nursery rhyme today and found our popcorn words.  Children completed a number of Jack and Jill activities which included retell puppets, felt board story telling, and printing.

We are bucket fillers

Our students have been hard at work 'filling buckets'.  They are saying kind words to friends, writing encouraging notes, and working together.  Their kindness fills their friends' "buckets".

Working with numbers

Students have been working with numbers 1 to 10. They are practicing writing numbers, recognizing numbers, and adding numbers.  Our shake and spill activity encourages students to count how many of each colour counter they have and to see what it makes when both colours are added together.

Our house centre

From time to time our students change the house centre into something new.  They have been busy transforming it into a drive-in movie theatre.  Students practice with money as they sell concessions, sound out words for movie titles, and today students started making cars which will be added to the centre.  What a lot of teamwork and imagination have gone into creating our drive-in!

Learning through play

Today we were busy stamping sentences and popcorn words. Learning a new game, rules and turn taking. We built with magnetic blocks and measured with chain links.

This morning students read a story about a shape monster and responded by drawing their own shape monster.  This afternoon some students created monsters out of shapes.

Mr. Thomas

Mr. Thomas came to visit today!  He showed us his uniform from many years ago when he was in the Canadian military police.  Mr. Thomas read the children a story called The Peace Book and discussed how important it is to be kind, friendly, and helpful to others.  He left poppy stickers for the students to wear on Remembrance Day this Wednesday.  Thank you Mr. Thomas for sharing your stories, motorcycle, and uniform with us!

Remembrance Day Activities

We made part of our handprint cover for our portfolios.  These are special folders that will come home at the end of the year.

Alphabet Adventure

After reading the story Alphabet Adventure we made pencil rockets, letter ships, and alphabet soup pots.  Children have also begun writing in their journals and making number lines.

Welcome to Our Kindergarten Blog!!

First day!

Welcome back! It was so fun to see old friends and make new friends today.

This afternoon some students coloured in donuts to help with our carpet time activity. We sang "Down around the corner at the bakery shop" and students were able to choose a donut to take away.
