The Big Field
Starting on Monday, our SK friends will be going out onto the big field for Nutrition breaks. They have had a tour, learned the rules, and discused games they could play with their friends. How exciting!!

Snails
We found a snail outside. We brought into our class terrarium to observe and investigate.
We researched what they like to eat. They enjoy greens, lettuce, cucumbers, carrots and plants.

terrific Tuesday
We had a busy morning. At creative centre we made our own clocks. We worked on the letter j and g. We sponge painted patterns using yellow and purple paint. Building and exploring other materials was enjoyed as well.

Slugs
We learned that slugs don't have a shell like snails. Many friends have seen a slug before. They like the slippery trail a slug leaves behind!

Story time "Snake Supper"
Today we listened to the story " Snake Supper". We learned that good readers make predictions. We listened to what was happening in the story. Then we predicted what we thought might happen, three people were able to predict what they thought would happen next.

Sports and music
We are investigating sports we enjoy playing in the summer months. Soccer seems to be a favourite.
In music class we are exploring rhythm. We used Popsicle sticks to create ta's and ti - ti's to represent the rhythm.

fabulous Friday!
We have had a busy week. Today we created structures out of strips of paper. You could bend it, twirl it, fold it then glue it to your paper. Buildings were built from Lego and magnetic blocks. The dramatic centre has transformed into a Diner, we have a chef, servers, diners and even a drink machine.
Water play was available for investigating frogs, gems and lily pads.
We did journal writing as well.

Structures
We have been discussing buildings, structures and how things are made.
Materials needed to build towers and buildings. We have created our own structures with loose parts, various materials and planning.
Some of the buildings we are investigating are the Eiffel Tower, CN tower and other tall buildings.

Jump Rope for Heart
We had our Jump Rope For Heart activities on Friday, May 13. The children stayed active skipping rope, throwing bean bags, hula hooping, and completing an obstacle coarse. Let's keep our hearts healthy! Thank you to the families who have generously collected donations for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Releasing Our Butterfly

Scientists in School
Scientist Janice arrived this morning to lead our science workshop. We spent almost two hours with hands-on exploring and experimenting! A few favourites were the constellation tent, digging for dinosaur bones, mixing materials in test tubes, and feeling a real octopus with gloves on. A huge thank you to Mrs. Andres, Mrs. Hofer, Mrs. Osman, and Mrs. Belluz for helping run the centres.

Piñatas
We are learning that in Mexico, they use piñatas at parties and special occasions. Our classroom designed piñatas, took a group vote and decided on a butterfly and monster truck for our piñatas. We all worked on completing the piñatas. As well as making miniature ones for ourselves.

Building structures
Today some students were busy building structures. The wooden beams became a fence, they carefully stepped over each beam. Great team work, turn taking and co operation !

Sink or float
This afternoon we investigated objects. We determined if they would sink ( go to bottom) or float ( stay on top of water). Many students were curious. They also built their own structures to test if they would sink or float.
Scientists n School
We had some disappointing news this morning. Just before arrival we were notified that our workshop was cancelled for today due to an illness. We will reschedule in the near future.

Officer Sarah Visits
Police Officer Sarah arrived this morning to talk to us about how police officers help keep people safe. She showed us how to call 911 and asked everyone to discuss tonight with their parents when it is appropriate to use 911.

Bully awareness day
Today we dressed in pink to bring awareness to bullying. In class we read the book "Llama llama and the bully goat". We discussed how to be a good friend, how to treat others with respect and how to work together.

We have begun an inquiry on worms. Now that the warmer wet weather is here we should be finding them everywhere! We have learned the parts of a worm and their habitat.

Blue Skies Airlines
We have transformed our dramatic centre into an airport. The students are traveling all over the world. They are filling out airline tickets, making passports, checking in luggage and going on a flight. We have pilots, flight attendants and customers flying.

We learned the steps to planting a seed.
1. Fill container with soil.
2. Add seed.
3. Cover seed with more soil.
4. Put in sunny spot.
5. Water plant.
6. Watch it grow!

Station 24 visits
Due to the rainy weather we cancelled our walking trip to the Fire Station. However, the Firefighters visited us! We got to go inside the truck to see where the captain and other firefighters sit. They showed us all the compartments on the side of the truck where emergency tools we stored, the axes, jaws of life, fire hoses and emergency supplies.
We had a great visit! Thank you Waterdown Station 24!
